Dan Greene

Dan Greene is Managing Partner with more than two decades of experience defending clients against felony and misdemeanor charges — experience built, in part, inside the federal system itself. Before he ever represented a defendant, Dan worked as a law clerk and student intern for the Department of Justice, the Office of the Attorney General, and the Federal Defenders of San Diego, giving him a firsthand view of how federal prosecutors and federal public defenders build and challenge a case.

That early experience shaped his legal education: Dan earned high honors at California Western School of Law for a thesis on Fourth Amendment protections, the constitutional foundation for challenging unlawful searches, seizures, and federal search warrants — often the single most effective way to have evidence suppressed or a federal case dismissed before trial. Dan is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California, the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, and the United States Supreme Court.

Dan’s trial record includes not-guilty verdicts, hung juries, and dismissals across every courthouse in San Diego County — including a not-guilty verdict in a 2018 first-degree murder trial and a related child molestation trial where his clients faced a combined potential sentence of over 210 years to life, and a complete acquittal on all 22 counts in a 2013 sexual-abuse case that carried a potential 230-year sentence. He was named 2019 Trial Lawyer of the Year by the Criminal Defense Bar Association of San Diego. He has been selected to Super Lawyers every year since 2015. In April 2024, Dan rejoined Sevens Legal — the firm behind Federal Criminal Defense Lawyers’ federal practice — as Managing Partner, reuniting with fellow founding attorneys Kerry Steigerwalt and Samantha Greene, his wife. Clients facing a federal indictment benefit from an attorney who has studied the system from the inside of both the prosecution and the public defender’s office.
